Thanksgiving Weekend

We have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. We've just crossed the 4 week mark and mommy is extremely thankful and appreciates all the food people have brought (she hasn't cooked since we've come home!) and the hours A-mas have spent in our home taking care of all of us. The pregnancy and birth were both pretty much uneventful, which is GREAT. Dad is back at work now and mom is trying to take it easy while taking care of the twins.

Alpha and Bravo are just shy of moi-gue (one month). They're both about 6.5lbs currently (Alpha weights 5g more.) Mommy's holding Bravo.

In most of our photos, Alpha is on the left and Bravo is on the right. Do we look identical? Some people say one of us looks like mom and the other one looks like dad. Does that mean that mom and dad look alike?

Here we are with family for a Thanksgiving lunch. It was wonderful to have food cooked and brought to us so that we wouldn't have to pack up the nursery for a trip out.

See the pretty curtains in the background? A-ma (R) helped to pick out the fabric and A-ma (N) made them for our nursery. This is how dad feeds Bravo and himself at the same time.

Finally, a picture with mommy and Bravo.

Thanksgiving was also A-ma's birthday, so we celebrated with cake and our striped onesies.
We seem to draw a crowd of attention wherever we are - be it an elevator, nursery or at A-ma's (Thanksgiving lunch #2). Mommy was excited to have all the turkey leftovers.

Hmm... where are the photos of Alpha? Oh, here he is, showing how he stretches when he wakes up to eat.

During tummy time they listen to music, watch their mobile hear stories or read their book from Auntie Gracie. (Tip: the stuffed animal in the corner is Bravo's. Alpha's is blue.)

At last we meet

Here we are, getting ready for our first social outing. Boy, did it take a while to pack up everything that we needed to stay away from home for more than an hour and a half - getting dressed, reloaded diaper bag, pillows and nursing supplies, supplements for the road and enough of everything for 2.

We've been waiting a while for the first meeting of the Three Muskateers. What are Alpha (19 days old) , Wasabi (2 days old) and Bravo (Alpha minus a minute old) going to get themselves into? Babysitters and Church School teachers beware!
We haven't forgotten about Sushi. Do you think she'll be able to manage all three of them? I think she's going to have her hands full being the leader of the gang.

Ahh, this is what we need, 3 proud A-mas to help out.
Dads taking care of the kids. Are they looking a little sleep deprived?

Hey, where are the moms?

At home for a week

We were discharged from the hospital last Friday, and we've now spent over a week with the twins at home. We've had lots of visitors (especially the grandparents) and have really appreciated all the food that has been brought to us and the household chores that have been done. It's been such a blessing to find the sink clean and empty after last seeing it filled with dirty dishes, same goes for clean folded laundry. Basically it feels like everyone is taking care of us as we take care of the twins.
The A-mas have been initiated into the twins routine and will be able to help with tandem feedings once Dad goes back to work on Wednesday. We're still struggling to get up in the middle of the night (amazing how all those years of hitting the snooze button are now paying off because we're able to sleep right through the alarm - not a good thing when you're trying to feed every 3 hours!!). The ~4am feeding is always the killer. 1am and 7am somehow don't seem as bad. If the twins are fussy, it often means no sleep between feedings for Mom. Dad has been great helping at night, but we'll have to wean him off the night feedings a bit as he heads back to work.
Here are some photos from this past week. Can you tell them apart?

The Delivery

The whole process started early on September 11, 2007.

5:00am - We woke up early to give ourselves plenty of time to get to the hospital. We dragged ourselves out of bed, loaded the car and then were off.

6:00am - We arrived at the hospital and were admitted. Mom was prepped for surgery while dad changed into scrubs.

7:50am - Mom enters the OR while dad waits outside.

8:05am - Dad enters the OR and sits next to mom.
8:13am - Mom and Dad hear loud crying and Baby A (Alpha) is born.

8:14am - Loud crying in stereo sound as Baby B (Bravo) is born.

Things get wrapped up and the anesthesiologists takes our first family portrait.

A-ma joins us after we're out of the recovery room and moved into our (first) room.

Table for 4 please :)

Down to counting hours

So today, the day before our scheduled C-section for the twins, mommy-to-be just relaxed and did some laundry, watched some soaps, played on email and tried to organize a few things (clean our room so there's space to put the bassinet (though we only have 1, so I'm not exactly sure how that's going to work!)). Also waited for a repair man (recall issue with our oven) who ran into some problems putting the oven all the way back in the wall.

Daddy-to-be got off work early today and decided to fix the oven, and some.
So, 1 last "minor" renovation in our kitchen the night before we have our kids. :) We're finding that pretty hilarious and very typical of us.

We're pretty much packed for the hospital. Just have to get a sleeping bag and thermarest and we'll be good to go. Have a bag packed for the twins. Those newborn diapers are darn tiny!! Can't quite see how we're going to have 2 such small people in our lives by tomorrow. We're leaving the house around 5:40am and have to be there by 6am. The hospital is only 10 minutes away (probably closer without the traffic) and then we'll have to find parking and figure out where the admitting entrance is. Sounds like they'll do some blood work first and that somehow takes an hour and a half (??). And then, we'll all head into the operating room.

Thanks for joining us for the twin journey. We'll get some photos up once we get home again (hopefully around the weekend - all going smoothly). Thanks for your continued prayers.

Counting the days...

We had out last scheduled ultrasound today. Both twins are breech, heads next to each other. Twin A is breech on the right. Twin B is breech in the upper left. They are now at 36 weeks and 5 days. We also went through a non stress test (NTS) today. Basically they monitored the fetal heartbeats and I had to press a button each time I felt movement. It prints out a graph and apparently everything looked good.

We're scheduled for a C-section next week, so we're entering our last pre-twin weekend. We'll be trying to relax this weekend and keep everyone in place until the big day. Hopefully there won't be any surprises. We just have a few more rooms to clean, a few more items to stock in the freezer and some more blueberries to buy. :)

Our deepest appreciation to everyone who has helped us to prepare and has been praying for us.
